My Cancer Journey: The Supplements I’m Taking

After reading about all of the supplements and their ability to shut down metabolic pathways in cancer, I was more than willing to jump on the long list of supplements provided by my Integrative Oncologist.

But it was incredibly overwhelming. Frankly, I do not like counting out pills each week, but that’s what I do. Jeff got me this pill sorter and it keeps me in check.

Here is the list. Many of these are multi-vit so I’m listing all of the included vitamins as well.

If you are here seeking advice for your own cancer, I would be remiss not to say that this supplements have been tailored to me and my specific tumor genes. So, this isn’t medical advice. It’s just a look at what kind of protocol you could be setting yourself up for if you seek this strategy. I strongly suggest roping your Oncologist in and if they shut you down, its a really good idea to shop for a new or at least a secondary oncologist for your care.

Shoutout to my dear friend and an incredible support to me and my family, Cancer Chef Kate. After working for years through her own dietary goals from Whole30, to juice cleanses to Paleo & Keto lifestyles, Kate was prepared to step in and help me navigate my huge lifestyle change.
She has not only cooked and delivered food weekly throughout my entire chemo process, but she also babysits my daughter and keeps me alive with her insanely delicious bone broth and careful attention to Cancer Fighting Foods.

I love you Kate.

Here is my favorite tip that I learned from a book I read, THE MOON JUICE COOKBOOK

If you create a beautiful space for your daily foods, teas, and supplements then you are more likely to enjoy the habit you are creating for yourself in this lifestyle change. I did that by purchasing a few key items to set out on my kitchen shelves.

Now I am reminded daily, in an aesthetically pleasing way, that these are the foods to snack on or toss into my most recent meal pan.

What’s in the jars?

  • Nutritional Yeast
  • Chia Seeds
  • Ground Flax Seed
  • Cacao
  • Rasa Adaptogenic Coffee Alternative
  • Sugar Free Cacao Chips
  • Brazil Nuts
  • Almonds
  • Sprouted Sunflower Seeds
  • Dried Mulberries (an excellent source of resveratrol)

RECIPE: Vegan Paleo Sugar Free Chocolate Cake

I am making this cake weekly around here. It’s a constant source of sweet joy! There is nothing unhealthy about it, so it’s my guilt free answer to my love for dessert or a sweet midday snack.

My favorite way to eat a piece is with a dollop of Coconut Cream scooped straight out of the can and a few organic blueberries or Harry’s Strawberries on top, and when I’m feeling extra extra I sprinkle a few additional Lily’s baking chips on the pile.

Vegan Paleo Sugar Free Chocolate Cake

Satisfy your sweet tooth but keep it low glycemic with this yummy chocolate cake recipe made from Zucchini & Avocado!

Mix these Dry Ingredients First

  • 1 cup Almond Flour (Blanched is best, but Super Fine is cool too) (I use Bob's Red Mill)
  • ½ cup Cacao Powder (I use Navitas)
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • ½ tsp Kosher Salt

Next Mix these Wet Ingredients

  • ½ Cup Avocado (I usually use one whole large Avocado. Who wants to dirty up another cup?)
  • ¾ cup Granulated Monkfruit Sweetener
  • 2 NEAT EGGS Vegan Egg Replacement (You can use real eggs and your cake will be fluffier. But I have a sensitivity so I often use NEAT EGG.)
  • 1 tsp Pure Vanilla Extract (No Sugar Added)

Add in the Dry Ingredient Mixture and then add

  • 1¼ Cup Grated Zucchini (After manually grating a few Zucchini's, I bought and now use a food processor for this step. #worthit https://rstyle.me/+qr7nuxRa1mjLDEEpVAaIoQ)
  • 1 cup Sugar Free Chocolate Chips (I use Lilly's (it has Stevia) )
  1. Preheat oven to 350°. Line a loaf pan with parchment paper and grease with cooking spray.

Dry Ingredients

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together 1 cup of almond flour, ½ cup cocoa powder, 1 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp cinnamon, and ½ tsp salt.

Wet Ingredients

  1. In the mixer, mix together ½ cup avocado, 1 cup sugar, 2 Neat Eggs, and 1 tsp vanilla. Add 1¼ cup zucchini, then add flour mixture. Fold in chocolate chips.

Bake

  1. Transfer batter to prepared pan and bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 1 hour.
